We are proud to share that Dr. Xiuling Li, Temple Foundation Endowed Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, has been selected as the recipient of the IEEE Photonics Society Engineering Achievement Award.

This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Li “for contributions to advanced semiconductor growth and processing technologies for photonic nanodevices.” Dr. Li is a globally recognized leader in semiconductor materials and device research. She currently serves as Director of the Microelectronics Research Center at UT Austin. Her groundbreaking work includes innovations in Metal-Assisted Chemical Etching (MacEtch), MOCVD-grown nanowire transistors, and self-rolled-up membrane (S-RuM) technology.

Dr. Li earned her B.S. from Peking University and Ph.D. from UCLA, followed by postdoctoral research at Caltech and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), as well as industry experience at Coherent, Inc. (formerly EpiWorks). Prior to joining UT Austin in 2021, she was the Donald Biggar Willett Professor in Engineering at UIUC and interim director of the Nick Holonyak Jr. Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory.

Her prolific contributions include over 180 journal publications, more than 150 invited talks, and 25+ patents. She is a Fellow of IEEE, APS, Optica, NAI, and AAAS, and has received numerous honors including the NSF CAREER Award, DARPA Young Faculty Award, ONR Young Investigator Award, and the IEEE Pioneer Award in Nanotechnology. Dr. Li also serves as Deputy Editor of Applied Physics Letters and is active on several professional committees.
